Public Relation

Public relations (PR) specialists work to build a positive image for their employer or clients through print, online and visual media. PR often entails writing press releases and speeches or developing content for websites, blogs and social media such as Facebook and Twitter. PR professionals may also serve as media contacts or spokespeople on radio, TV or in newspapers. Studies in public relations usually include classes in market research or advertising to help students determine target audiences and find effective ways to reach them. To become a clear, persuasive communicator, consider additional courses in public speaking, copywriting or journalism. Public relations specialists often work for corporations, non-profit organizations, government agencies and other employers. Examples of PR jobs include speech writer, communications specialist, media liaison, fund-raiser and director of public relations.
