Gauhati University

The Gauhati University which is located in Jalukbari, Guwahati, is the first, oldest and renowned University in the entire North East India. It was established in 1948. It is a teaching-cum-affiliating university. There are several colleges, institutes etc. that are affiliated to this university. At present there are approximately 326 Colleges/Institutes (list of colleges) which comes under this university, which are mostly located in the districts of lower Assam.

The first public demand was made at the annual session of the Assam Association held at Sivasagar in 1917. In 1940 the Government appointed S. K. Bhuyan as Special Officer with the task of collecting relevant information on the selection of site and related matters. The university was established by an act of the State Legislature: the Gauhati University Act 1947 (Assam Act, XVI of 1947) of the government of Assam in 1948. The first court meeting of the university was held on 26 January 1948, which is considered the foundation day, at the old Sudmerson Hall of Cotton College, Guwahati. It had 17 affiliated colleges and eight Post Graduate Departments on its establishment.

The University which started functioning from the city center was shifted to the present campus in 1955-56.

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (NIMHANS) is a medical institution located in Bangalore, India. NIMHANS was conferred a deemed university status by the UGC in 1994 and has been declared as an Institute of National Importance by an act of parliament in 2012.

NIMHANS, a multidisciplinary central government institute in the field of mental health and neurosciences, was the result of the amalgamation of the erstwhile mental hospital and the All India Institute of Mental Health. The Institute was inaugurated on 27 December 1974, establishing it as an autonomous body under the Societies Registration Act to lead in the area of medical service and research in the country.

The Lunatic Asylum which came into being in the latter part of the 19th Century was renamed as Mental Hospital in 1925 by the erstwhile Government of Mysore. This hospital and All India Institute of Mental Health established in 1954 by Government of India were amalgamated on 27 December 1974, and thus was formed the autonomous National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS). Recent years have seen discussions about opening another NIMHANS at Cuttack.

Indian Agricultural Research Institute New Delhi

The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) commonly known as Pusa Institute is India's premier national Institute for agricultural research, education and extension.

Situated in Delhi, it is financed and administered by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The IARI was responsible for the research leading to the "Green Revolution in India" of the 1970s.

The institute was originally established in 1905 at Pusa, Bihar, as Agricultural Research Institute (ARI), which was changed to Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research in 1911 and then again in 1919 as the Imperial Agricultural Research Institute. with the financial assistance of an American Philanthropist, Henry Phipps, Jr.. Phipps was a family friend of Lady Curzon, who was the daughter of American millionaire and wife of Lord Curzon, the Viceroy of India. Phipps stayed as a guest of Curzons during his visit to India. More importantly, Phipps left behind with them a donation of $30,000, which was utilized for the establishment of the institute. He laid the foundation stone of Agricultural Research Institute and college on 1 April 1905.

However the institute was damaged during the devastating Bihar earthquake of 1934 which occurred on 15 January 1934. Thereafter the Secretary of State approved the transfer in July, 1943.The Standing Finance Committee of the Union Assembly finally announced on 25 August 1934 in Shimla, the decision to shift the institute to New Delhi at the approximate cost of
8 million (US$56,000).to a place that is now called Pusa in New Delhi. The new campus at New Delhi was inaugurated on 29 July 1936, while the new building of the Imperial Institute of Agricultural Research was inaugurated by then Viceroy of India, Lord Linlithgow on 7 November 1936.

Jiwaji University Gwalior

Jiwaji University (JU) is an public affiliating university in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. The name comes from that of George Jivajirao Scindia of Gwalior. The university was established on May 23, 1964 and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the President of India, laid the foundation stone of the campus on December 11, 1964. It is fully accredited by the Government of India.

The university offers affiliation to institutions of higher learning in six districts of Gwalior and Chambal division: Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri and Datia. It started with 29 affiliated colleges and now more than 300 colleges are affiliated to it.

PEC University of Technology, formerly known as Punjab Engineering College engineering institute located in the city of Chandigarh, India. Founded in 1921, it is one of the oldest educational institutes in India.

The university was originally established as Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore (now in Pakistan) on November 9, 1921. The name of the college was later changed to Maclagan Engineering College in March 1924. In the year 1931, the college was affiliated to Punjab University, Lahore. After partition in 1947, the college was relocated to Roorkee in India and was renamed as East Punjab College of Engineering. In the year 1950 the word East was dropped. Towards the end of December 1953, the college shifted to its present campus in Chandigarh to function under the Government of Punjab. In 1966, with the formation of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, the college came under the control of the Government of India through the Chandigarh Administration. In October 2003, the Government of India recognized the college as a Deemed University and thereafter it became known as Punjab Engineering College (Deemed University). In 2009, the Board of Governors renamed the institution as PEC University of Technology.
